2010 Debut Author Challenge

Just when I thought I'm done joining book challenges, I found some more in the internet!

This challenge is hosted by The Story Siren and challenges peeps to read at least 12 books from 2010 Debut Authors!

I already have one book with me, so it's quite exciting! Look into my review posts over the year to find out more about new authors and their awesome books!

Go and join as well if you wish :)

2010 Audiobook Reading Challenge

And so another challenge I've signed up for! This time, it's for an audiobook challenge :)

This one also runs from January 1 -December 31, 2010! And since I do "read" audiobooks, this one should be a breeze!

My goal is to reach at least the Curious or the Fascinated level:

-- Curious – Listen to 3 Audio Books.

-- Fascinated – Listen to 6 Audio Books.

Watch out for this space as I place the list of books I've read relating to this challenge :)

2010 Historical Fiction reading challenge

The 2010 Historical Fiction reading challenge is hosted by http://theroyalreviews.blogspot.com/

Now, seeing that I've signed up for a bazillion other reading challenges before and never really seemed to finish one yet, I thought I'd give this a try as some of my other TBR books are historical fiction! Plus, I seem to have a knack of reading them as it gives me a glimpse of history :) Also, it'll be nice to interact with other bloggers who are joining this challenge!

Since I am a slow reader, I am gunning for the Curious level -- read three books.

Challenge will run from January 1, 2010 until December 31, 2010.

I could probably do this in conjunction with the other challenges :) That's it for now!

The 24hour readathon TBR pile

Finally! This post was going to be posted a few days ago but I was having difficulty editing my blogger post!

After my last depressing blog entry, I decided to post a more happier one -- The 24 hour readathon! It's going to be next Saturday, from 24th of October 8pm Manila time till the 25th of October, 8pm.

I will be reading from 8pm-12mn [possibly even 1am], then from 9am till the evening. [minus a few other personal time as well]

Below is a list of books I hope to be reading during the whole readathon:

1. Cleopatra's Daughter - Michelle Moran
2. Angels & Demons - Dan Brown
3. Eclipse - Stephenie Meyer

My backup pile:
1. Harry Potter & the Sorcerer's Stone - JK Rowling
2. Me & Mr Darcy - Alexandra Potter

It is quite a short list, given that I read very, very slow.

I will be posting updates through my blog or through my twitter account @rubyreads every hour, will be joining the mini-challenges & also cheering the other readers on *phew*

That's it for now! :)

The 24hour readathon.

So I found out about the 24 hour readathon sometime early this year, but due to my excessively hectic schedule early this year, I decided to forego it. Lo and behold, they are having another readathon this October 24th!

It starts at 8pm here in Manila, and will end on October 25th, 8pm as well.

Now, I'm not much of a reader. In all honesty I prefer to watch telly shows, movies, and chatting, but then again when I look at the vast collection of unread books at home I realized that now's the time to actually participate and dwindle down some of the unread books I have.

I signed up for both a reader and a cheerleader. I read fairly slow so being a cheerleader will give me a much needed break to just surf and discover new blogs and hopefully new books to read as well.

Do I have a shortlist of books to read during this readathon? Well, I've got a few books that I've read a few pages of that would give me a chance to finish, hopefully.

Of course I wouldn't commit to the whole 24 hours. I need my 9 hours of sleep [its a weekend and I need to get much needed rest for a very busy weekday ahead], 2 hours for Church, 1 hour for lunch and dinner, and 1 hour for doing personal stuff.

So I could only commit 11 hours to the readathon but never mind, it's the thought that counts.

Do wish me luck!

I encourage you guys to sign up as readers or maybe even as cheerleaders as well. As the post states, you don't really have to commit the whole 24 hours to the event =)

On Reading Challenges.

Honestly, this will be the first official time that I'll be joining some reading challenges. I normally challenge myself to read so-and-so number of books per year but since I've taken the hobby of reading more seriously, I think it's time to join the challenges being hosted online [and yes, the prizes are 90% of the reason also of why I joined :P ]

First off, I've joined the Sookie Stackhouse reading challenge -- this runs from July 1, 2009-June 30, 2010.
Goal is to read the Sookie Stackhouse books. Easy enough? Not for me! I'm an ultra slow reader, in case you guys haven't noticed yet. :P I've just asked my good friend Yam to help me get some audio books to get me started. Yaay!
Here's the link:

Progress:
Dead Until Dark
Living Dead in Dallas
Club Dead
Dead to the World
Dead as a Doornail
Definitely Dead
All Together Dead
From Dead to Worse
Dead and Gone

Second, I've joined the Harry Potter reading challenge -- this runs from August 1, 2009 to July 31, 2010. It's a good time for me to catch up on all 7 books of Harry Potter, since my friends knew that I stopped reading the series at book 3. I don't understand why I stopped in the first place as well, but hey, now's the time to re-read the series & finish off what I've started.

I've finished downloading an audiobook of the Prisoner of Azkaban so I'll probably kick off this challenge there.

Third challenge: the Reliquaiae Challenge
Goal is to read at least 3-6 books that revolve around the paranormal: vampires, werewolves, ghosts, witches and all sorts of fantastical beings.
Challenge runs from July 15th 2009 to January 15th 2010.

Levels:
  • Bite on the Neck: 3 books.
  • Flying Cauldron: 4 books.
  • Deadly Red Moon: 5 books.
  • Haunted Nights: 6 books.
I'm planning on trying one level at a time. For this challenge [Bite on the Neck], my list is as follows:
1. New Moon - Stephenie Meyer [Finished August 22, 2009]
2. Eclipse- Stephenie Meyer [Finished October 28, 2009]
3. Breaking Dawn - Stephenie Meyer.
**Looks like I'll fail this. I haven't finished the Twilight Saga series! :\ ** However, if it involves Harry Potter as a magical being [ie a wizard] then I've passed the first goal with flying colours with 4 books read!

Once I've finished the three above, I'll probably do a cross-challenge with the two other challenges I've posted above.

And another one! The Vampire Diaries reading challenge!
The Awakening
The Struggle
The Fury
Dark Reunion
And the ongoing story in
The Vampire Diaries: The Return: Nightfall

Hosted by: My Friend Amy

This will run from Sept 1, 2009 till August 31st, 2010.
I've started watching the telly series. Does that count? :D
