Just a passing note from me-- I've been noticing that most book blogs concentrate on new books being released. Granted, some of them are lucky enough to get Advanced Reader Copies [ARCs] or finished copies from authors or publishers, and some of them do tend to buy new books more often than the older releases.
Which leads me to the question: do you prefer reading new releases [ie books released just this year] or do you prefer reading older releases?
In my case, I prefer reading the older releases. Why? Well, because I love finding older releases on sale in used bookstores! Plus, I get to buy them for more than half the price that's way cheaper than the ones that are still brand-new. To be honest, books are just part of a huge set of addictions that I have so I tend to find something that will entertain me at the lowest cost I could possibly get. Meaning, I don't really buy every book I buy full price [unless I really, really, really, really want to read that certain book.] Plus, these used books have a lot of character in it.
My fascination with older releases is that I get to review books that other people have long forgotten or not have taken a good look at when they were first released. What, with all the hype regarding the new ones, someone has got to review the older ones, right?
That's just my two cents for now.

I agree. I love going into a used bookstore and discovering an old book that no one has heard of before and then sharing it with people. I try to only buy used books but will buy new books when the book looks really interesting and I can't wait for it to get to the used bookstore or wait for my name to come up on the wait-list at the library. New releases are great but oldies are just as great, too. As long as there is a good story to be told, I'll try to get my hands on it any way I can.
I like reading and reviewing both. But I also love it when I find something that I'm unfamiliar with and not that many people know. I agree with Nickles - I'll read it as long as it's a good story.
I think everyone of us would devour anything that is a good story :) Sometimes I pick up duds in the used bookstore though. Mostly because I would think they are cheap and fell in love with the cover but then the story is a bit of a blah!
Then there's masochistic me, who simply has to to finish everything i read! lol. Just to say "I've read it, it sucks, don't buy it."
But oh well, to each their own, right?
I guess I like both, although I usually focus more on older relases. Sometimes I buy a book that is newly released, but it takes me so long to get to it, that by the time I post about it, its an older release :)
I like old releases more, too, because I pick them up solely on interest.
I also like discovering good books and letting more people know about them.
My friend and I were recently discussing about technology, and how integrated it has become to our daily lives. Reading this post makes me think back to that discussion we had, and just how inseparable from electronics we have all become.
I don't mean this in a bad way, of course! Ethical concerns aside... I just hope that as technology further advances, the possibility of copying our brains onto a digital medium becomes a true reality. It's a fantasy that I dream about almost every day.
